The Reactive Investor
Charles Carlson, CFA
Editor, DRIP Investor Newsletter
People are just now getting their October brokerage and DRIP statements, and the news is pretty bad in most cases. Indeed, the S&P 500 index was down nearly 17%. Thus, even conservatively managed portfolios with lots of cash still got slapped around during the month.
A typical reaction after seeing October’s declines is to throw in the towel and dump all of your stocks. I know because I’ve been hearing from investors who are contemplating moving to all cash.
However, it usually doesn’t pay to be a “reactive” investor.
